Petrol ride on mowers will sometimes be called Garden tractors. You will also hear them referred to as Lawn tractors. Whatever you decide to call them they will fall into several different categories. They will differ in their method of grass ejection and collection which will be:-
Direct Rear Collect (possibly with an option to mulch)
Side Discharge (possibly also with an option to mulch)
Paddock ‘Mulching’ (a side discharge machine with the optional mulch kit fitted)
Fine Lawn ‘Multiclip’
Why will you choose to buy Mountfield or Stiga? Well to be honest both brands will be from the same factory and many model platforms will have a variant in both brands. You may find they have slightly different specifications between the brands. Generally you may find that the Stiga ride on lawn mowers will be of higher spec than the Mountfield. In particular, you could check out the engine options of both brands as sizes and powers will vary.
Simply the best, better than all the rest, a tiny turner
The front deck Park models will only be found in the Stiga brand and fall into the category of ‘fine lawn multiclip’. These mowers do a truly excellent job on regularly cut lawns. But to be quite honest they will be best avoided if your intention is to mow infrequently. Cutting long grass will be best tackled with a side discharge or collection machine.
The Stiga Park petrol ride on mowers will always remain however as my firm favourites. They will always be my first choice for large regularly cut lawns where they will leave an incredibly tidy finish. And all without the need to remove clippings.
