Cordless battery powered machines have come a long way!

Many people shy away from battery powered machines for fear that they won't perform as well as their petrol rivals. I'll admit that in the early years I did find the cordless machinery to be less than satisfactory. Its amazing though, how technology has advanced and evolved over the last decade. As a matter of fact, the latest generation of battery powered garden machinery actually offer substantial run-time and performance, so much so that they give real competition to their petrol counterparts. I'm so impressed by their quality and power that I firmly believe that cordless machines have now earned a very proud place in the gardening world and in our showroom here at Garden Kit.

When buying garden machinery, it might seem tempting to pop along to your nearest warehouse company or go online and choose something from their range. You'll likely choose a machine that you like the look of and is at the price you want to pay, but it may not be the right tool for the job. Small machines of lower cost may be fine for very light tasks, but probably won't manage tougher work. Whilst tougher, more powerful machines might be more than you need for the job. Stiga and Mountfield walk behind battery lawnmowers are almost identical to their petrol equivalent. The obvious difference of course is their powerful electric motors which will generally match or even outperform the petrol models. They are also significantly quieter in operation which can be a great advantage in noise sensitive areas.
Likewise, hand held equipment such as chainsaws, hedge cutters, strimmers and blowers all compare extremely well with petrol models, again operating with very little noise.

Run times and range anxiety.

Of course, the biggest worry is whether or not the batteries will have enough charge to complete your work. With the correct selection of machine and batteries there will be no problems in the domestic garden situation. Do not be too worried about the stated run times on the product information pages. These look quite low but are the 'worse case' scenarios and we have found that, in general, our customers are having no problem achieving at least 50% longer running and in some cases even double.

Why go cordless?

This is where I become a little controversial as I do not personally believe that going electric is going to save the planet, but there are some great benefits to be had. There is no smelly petrol to buy, no oil stains on the garage floor and no starting issues.
Neighbours will not be bothered by the noise, even on Sundays and in the evenings.
And, they just work so well, with so much power that Cordless machines are simply a joy to use.
