This MOUNTFIELD 1538M SD is the perfect solution for cutting large areas where there is no need to collect the grass. The grass is either discharged from the side chute or mulched when the optional mulch cover is in place. Mulching grass is a great feature and saves so much time as there is no stopping work to dispose of clippings. This budget tractor features a 414cc Mountfield ST400 engine developing 7.0kw of raw power, manual transmission, headlights and a tow bar. The 98cm/38" cutter deck provides 7 heights of cut from 25mm to 80mm with side discharge or mulch options. Suitable for gardens up to 2.0 acres.

Transmission

Driving the MOUNTFIELD 1538M SD is simplicity itself with its 5F/1R manual gearbox. Clutching is by a neatly placed clutch pedal operated by the drivers left foot, whilst the brake pedal is on the right.

Cutting Deck

The 38inch (98cm) twin-blade cutting deck has 2 anti-scalp wheels to ensure an even cut on undulating ground. In its standard form as a side-discharge deck this mower is excellent when grass growth is fast, however, in shorter conditions  you could choose to mulch the clippings using a mulching plug/plate (Standard) that is simply fitted. When mulching, the clippings are finely cut and blown back down onto the lawn to decompose and return valuable nutrients to the soil and as long as the grass is not too long no clippings will be visible.
